Today, I, Oleg Artemyev, the flight engineer of Expedition ISS-56 of the International Space Station and Sergei Prokopiev, the flight engineer of Expedition ISS-56 will tell you about the science hardware Ikarus, which we will have to install on the external surface of the Service Module this August.

Now I will show you the Ikarus hardware which is still in the Progress vehicle, as it is very bulky, and it is more convenient for us to store it in the cargo vehicle.

Now I am beside the Ikarus antenna unit, which is currently in transportation, i.e. in stowed configuration, so that it can be placed in the cargo vehicle (Figure 1). You can see the striped handles of the locks, which we will open sequentially to ensure the transfer of the receiving panels of the antenna unit and the transmitter from the stowed to operating position. Together with Sergey, we received several proper trainings on the installation of the antenna unit and its transfer to the operating configuration in the CTC neutral bouyancy laboratory, during which the sequence of our actions was adjusted. We are ready for "Spacewalk "!

Now I will show you the mechanical interface - RSC Energia-developed mast, which will ensure a required removal of the antenna unit from the station surface in order to guarantee its safe deployment (Figure 1). On one side of the mast has a flat platform, by which it is attached to the station body, and on the other side the mast will be attached to the antenna unit.

Now I will show you another RSC Energia-developed mechanical interface without which no complicated installation is performed on the external surface of the space station. This is the "Anchor" in which the suited cosmonaut restraints his feet. This makes it easier to perform complicated and precise operations (Figure 3).

For installation of Ikarus hardware the "Anchor" had to be upgraded and a tripod had to be manufactured, which has two fixed one movable supports. It is with the installation of the "Anchor-Ikarus" that we will begin installing the antenna unit.
And now Sergei and me are in the airlock compartment, from which we will soon have to go into open space in these spacesuits. The airlock compartment has two exit hatches with a diameter of one meter, through one of which we will go out and take out the Ikarus hardware. The remaining hatches are smaller, so we will prepare the Icarus hardware here.
We are sure that the installation of the Ikarus antenna and OBC-I control computer, which was performed earlier, and then the hardware operation in an automatic mode, will allow ornithologists of many countries to better understand the migration routes of birds and animals.
Research in this area will ensure a comfortable coexistence of the mankind and the animal world limiting the human impact on their natural habitat.
