The educational space experiment Great Start, which began in the year of the 50th anniversary of the first manned space mission, has generated considerable interest among Internet users in space flight in general, and, in particular, in achievements and capabilities of our country in the field of manned space flight. The participants in the experiment were given a chance to launch a virtual satellite into the orbit of the International Space Station, while the Russian cosmonauts read the answers to the experiment’s questionnaire and selected the answers they liked the most. These events were held several times and were reported on the pages of our web site.

This year the experiment Great Start will continue.

2012 will see the following events:

- 55th anniversary of the launch of the first artificial satellite of Earth;

- 50th anniversary of the first simultaneous mission of two manned spacecraft Vostok-3 and Vostok-4 piloted by Andrian Nikolaev and Pavel Popovich;

- 40th anniversary of signing an agreement between USSR and US on cooperation in space exploration for peaceful purposes;

- 35th anniversary of going into operation of a second-generation space station Salyut-6, which became the home in space for cosmonauts on the first international missions (Czechoslovakia, Poland, East Germany, Bulgaria and other socialist countries could send their first cosmonauts into Earth orbit);

- 30th anniversary of the launch of space station Salyut-7, its in-orbit operation lasted more than 9 years;

- 25th anniversary of the launch of the first utilization module to the MIR space station — Kvant module, which carried onboard an international suite of equipment called Roentgen which operated successfully, and observed, among other things, a supernova explosion.

All these missions and launches were prepared by an organization which is now called S.P.Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia.

Along with the study and discussion of archival documents, dedicated to the anniversaries in space history, we plan to give a greater emphasis to the current scientific and engineering research in the ISS Russian Segment, and its contribution to education and economy.

This year you can expect to see new materials and sections on the pages of the web site the Planet of Korolev.
