Digital images and video materials from the Russian Segment of the International Space Station (ISS RS) obtained under space program Uragan are being successfully used in Russian high-schools and universities. They serve as perfect training aids for schoolchildren, students and teachers in the studies of physical, social, economic and political geography. The pictures provide beautiful visual imagery which, when combined with a map, is conducive to a more efficient perception of information.

Color pictures and video films from space help to learn about major Earth's spheres: lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere, as well as to learn about specifics of their interaction; they help to get acquainted with geography of continents and oceans. Materials from the ISS assist in studying landforms and Earth interior, the laws of atmospheric circulation and climate-forming factors, natural zones, water, soil and plant resources, as well as industry, power production, agriculture and transport. Pictures and video films from space allow studying the geography of the nations of the world and impact of human activities on the environment.

Developed within the framework of educational space experiment Great Start were detailed recommendations for teachers on how teach the pupils using Earth remote sensing data received from the ISS RS.

If you want schools in your region/district to use space pictures from the ISS RS in the educational process, please contact us through the "Cooperation" section.

The space experiment “Virtual”Report on space experiment "Virtual" made by cosmonauts Ryazansky Sergei Nikolaevich and Kotov Oleg Valerievich from the ISS RS

Hello, dear visitors of the "Korolev's Planet" website! Our report is again dedicated to medical research. This time we will talk about the experiment "Virtual". The experiment is conducted on the Russian Segment of the ISS to develop a methodology of reliability prediction of visual tracking in complicated dynamic and visual conditions causing disorientation and positional illusion. This medical experiment performed on the Russian segment was also developed by the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
As you know, cosmonauts are regularly involved in performing such critical tasks as spacecraft docking, control of the manipulator located on the external surface of the station associated with fixing visual sense on the object under control.
Since weightlessness significantly changes the activity of gravity-dependent systems and violates their regular evolutionarily-associated interaction, adaptation to weightlessness conditions is usually accompanied by certain sensorial abnormalities. The first evidence of microgravity action is appearance of illusions of the body position or movement in space, dizziness, difficulty in capturing and tracking visual objects. The state is often perceived as uncomfortable.

Вахтенный журнал полета В. В. ТерешковойThe logbook is offered to the attention of portal visitors, which was keeping during V.V. Tereshkova flight in the Mission Control Centre (in MCC) at Baikonur in Kazakhstan (MCC was later relocated). This logbook recorded both recommendations given to V.V. Tereshkova from MCC, and her reports. All negotiations in the course of the flight were tape recorded. After each session the negotiations' shorthand records (word for word text) were recorded into the logbook under the corresponding departments' strict control. Therefore unreliable information could not get into the logbook, and there is its huge historical significance.
The editorial board provided a number of pages with comments for better understanding of the information, placed in the logbook. The logbook is published in full, in its entirety.
We express gratitude to Victor Dmitrievich Blagov worked as the senior engineer of OKB-1 department №9 during V.V. Tereshkova flight and participated actively in the V.V. Tereshkova flight preparation, for help in the recording's preparation.

The crew of the ISS Russian Segment consisting of:
Commander of the crew of the ISS-37/38 Expedition Oleg Kotov,
Flight engineer of the crew of ISS-38 Mikhail Tyurin,
Flight engineer of the crew of ISS-37/38 Sergei Ryazansky,
answer questions from the winners of the quiz "Ask the ISS Crew a Question".

Oleg KotovAnswering questions from the winners of the quiz Ask the ISS Crew a Question is the ISS-37/38 crew commander Oleg Kotov.

Good day, dear participants in the quiz Ask the ISS Crew a Question. I'm Oleg Kotov, the commander of Expedition 38 to the station, and I welcome the opportunity to answer some of your questions. Overall, we have received more than 60 questions. All of them are very interesting and very informative, some of them are fairly original and put to us for the first time. Unfortunately, it is not technically possible for us to answer all these interesting questions, that is why have chosen several questions which are, in our opinion, the most interesting and entertaining, and we'll try to answer them.

sea-launch

March 28, 1999, saw a demo launch of Zenit-3SL launch vehicle under the Sea Launch program. Upper stage Block DM-SL put into its target orbit a dummy spacecraft (SC) called Demosat.
Sea Launch is a high-technology international commercial project.
Today we offer you some materials reflecting the history of the project, the launches it has accomplished, its infrastructure and the advantages of a sea-going launch site, its key features. They also show the locations of the home port and the launch site, provide the sequence of pre-launch operations and the launch itself, and key events occurring during orbital insertion of a spacecraft, list the manufacturers of spacecraft launched by Sea Launch.

The editorial board of our web site already addressed the subject of the sea-going launch site in the past.

Гагарин

March 9, 2014 marks the 80th anniversary of the First Spaceman of our Planet – Yuri Gagarin.

Gagarin is the subject of many writings, an extensive section of the RSC Energia web site is dedicated to Yuri Gagarin and the first flight of man in space.

We are offering a material which outlines key events in Y. Gagarin’s life and gives an idea of the first manned spacecraft Vostok.

This material is primarily intended for schoolchildren, but we hope that it might be of interest to all those who would like to remember the beginnings of the Space Age, to steep themselves in the atmosphere of those distant times (links to the favorite Soviet songs of those days are provided).
